Chapter 7 – Money in a Fish’s Mouth

One day an officer from the temple in Jerusalem stopped Peter in the streets of Capernaum. “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?” he asked. In those days every man in Israel was supposed to pay a yearly tax to support the temple building program. It wasn’t really a tax, but more like an offering Peter didn’t want Jesus to get into trouble. He believed that Jesus was the Messiah and the most wonderful Person in the world! However, he did not want the officer to think that Jesus wasn’t loyal to God, or that He was unwilling to support the temple.
