The Twelve tribes of Israel were closer now to Canaan than ever before. They had passed through the desert east of Edom and Moab and were now approaching the land of the Amorites. The scenery had changed as they entered higher country kept cool by fresh breezes from the hills. What a welcome relief compared to the hot, dry wilderness through which they had recently passed!
