John the Beloved was quite young when he first met Jesus. He was born in Galilee and was a fisherman by trade. He became interested in Jesus as the Messiah when he heard John the Baptist preaching about “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” When he left his fishing boats to follow Jesus, he became the most faithful of disciples. Soon he was known as Jesus’ closest companion and was rarely absent from His side.
