Jesus often traveled with the disciples by boat on the Sea of Galilee. People called it a sea, but it was actually a lake. The Sea of Galilee had a dangerous reputation because many times violent storms would blow up on the water with very little warning. One evening, Jesus suggested that He and the disciples take a ride to the other side of the lake to get away from the huge crowd that followed them everywhere.
