Paul had been in prison off and on now for several years. His time in Caesarea and then Rome had not been a time of suffering with him chained to the wall, but he was not free to visit churches either. Friends came by for visits now and then. Timothy was with him in Rome, and so were Luke and Onesimus, a former slave who became a good friend of Paul while he was in prison. So did several others, including Tychicus and Epaphroditus
