The Philistines had invaded Israel again, and this time things looked really serious! Thousands of Philistines had come up to fight with their chariots and horsemen. King Saul was desperate with fear! All those months of chasing David were now beginning to take their toll on his kingdom. He was not prepared for war! Most of his men were not trained as soldiers. They were farmers. Even fewer had the necessary weapons to fight an army like the Philistines!
