The Prophet Samuel had died, and everyone in Israel mourned the passing of this great man. It’s likely the funeral services lasted as long as 30 days, because that’s how things were done in ancient Israel. Even King Saul went to honor the man of God, though the two of them had not been friends for years. He left David alone for a while so he could attend the funeral services.
