The story of the 10 young maidens and the wedding feast is a classic parable found in the book of Matthew. Jesus told this story to help His listeners understand that being ready is a very important part of life. Weddings were a big part of the culture in Jesus’ day. However, they were quite different from those we see today. For example, a young man didn’t propose to his girlfriend if he wanted to marry her. He didn’t get down on one knee and ask for her hand in marriage. He had to ask his parents to make all the arrangements for the wedding.
