Chapter 17 – Saul’s Sacrifice

Saul was a young man when he was anointed to be king over Israel. However, he didn’t build a royal palace for himself right away as might be expected. Instead, he went home and continued working on his father’s farm. An emergency early in his reign helped establish him as king in the eyes of the people. Nahash, the Ammonite king east of the Jordan, attacked and besieged the city of Jabesh in Gilead. He was downright cruel and threatened to gouge out the right eye of every man in the city.
