In the land of Israel lived a woman with her two sons. They were a poor family, barely able to provide the most basic things, such as food and clothes. Unfortunately, the man of the house had died, leaving the family deep in debt. Now the creditors were coming regularly and were taking everything they owned. The house would be the next to go. One creditor even threatened to take the woman’s two sons to be his slaves in payment for the debt owed him.
