Chapter 16 – Healing a Lame Man at Bethesda

In Jerusalem during the time of Jesus, there was a pool of water called Bethesda, which was surrounded by five porches. At this pool lots of people who were sick, blind, lame, and paralyzed would lie waiting for the moving of the water. The Bible says that at certain times of the year the water in the pool would swirl and become agitated, and it was commonly believed that this was the result of supernatural power. Some people even said that it was an angel stirring the water.
