Samuel grew up at Shiloh learning all he could about the sacred ceremonies held at the sanctuary. There were the sacrifices to be offered, and that in itself was almost a full- time job. Animals had to be inspected before they were killed at the altar. Some of the meat was to be put on the altar, and a fire lit to burn the sacrifices as the Lord had directed. The leftover meat must then be divided between the priests and the family offering the sacrifice.
