Times were not so good in Israel. Like Elijah, Elisha had been working tirelessly to bring the people back to the worship of the one true God, but it wasn’t easy. People did not want to give up the worship of their favorite gods, such as Baal and Ashtoreth. Queen Jezebel had made the worship of these gods popular in Israel, and Elisha was having a hard time getting rid of them.
