John the Baptist was preaching to thousands of people at the Jordan River, and his message of hope filled everyone with excitement. Not far from here, Jericho had been overthrown by the armies of heaven. The memory of those events gave them an exciting interest in John’s message. The people wondered if God would once again declare His power in the deliverance of Israel and free them from the hated Romans.
