Jerusalem was an astounding city. It was called the City of David and Mount Zion in its earliest days after David made it the capital of Israel. In Jesus’ day, it stood proud and tall. Everybody thought that this great city would last forever. However, there would come a day when the beloved city would fall. Just before His death, Jesus predicted the destruction of Jerusalem and the magnificent temple. “Do you see all these things?” He said to His disciples as they looked at the massive stones set in the walls. “There is coming a day when not one of these stones will be left standing. Everything will be thrown down.”
